JEWELLERY CARE GUIDE

JEWELLERY CARE GUIDE

At TESOURO, we design and craft our jewellery to be worn and loved every day. However, like all precious metals, our pieces can be affected by environmental factors such as moisture, chemicals, and air, which can cause discolouration over time. Even with our meticulous craftsmanship, metals like silver and gold can undergo a natural process called oxidation, leading to subtle changes in their appearance.

To help you enjoy your jewellery for years to come, we've put together this care guide. By following these simple tips, you can maintain the beauty and longevity of your treasured pieces.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Plating wear and tear is a natural occurrence with regular use, and is not considered a defect in our craftsmanship. With proper care, you can minimize this effect and keep your jewellery looking its best.

• While our jewellery is water-resistant, it's still important to remove your jewellery before showering, swimming, or exercising to prevent damage. If you do get your jewellery wet, gently wipe it dry with a soft cloth to prevent water spots.

• Apply perfume, lotions, and creams before putting on your jewellery to prevent damage from chemicals. This will help keep your jewellery looking its best and prevent tarnishing.

• After each use, gently clean your jewellery with the soft, dry cloth provided with your order. This will remove any oil or dust and restore its shine. Avoid using harsh chemicals, abrasive materials, or hot water, as these can damage your jewellery.

• When not in use, store your jewellery in its original box or a cool, dry place to prevent oxidation, scratching, and tangling. Avoid storing your jewellery in direct sunlight, humid environments, or near heating vents.

• Be gentle when handling your jewellery to prevent scratching, bending, or breaking. Avoid knocking your jewellery against countertops, and prevent pieces from rubbing against each other, as this can cause damage.

• Regularly inspect your jewellery for signs of wear, such as loose stones or clasps. If you notice any damage, contact us for repair or maintenance.

• Don't expose your jewellery to extreme temperatures, such as saunas, hot tubs, or extreme cold. This can cause damage to the materials or compromise the structural integrity of your jewellery.

HOW TO CLEAN YOUR JEWELLERY:

• Develop a daily habit of gently wiping your jewellery clean with a soft cloth or specialized jewellery cloth every time you take it off.

• Create a gentle cleaning solution by mixing warm water with a few drops of mild soap in a small bowl. Stir until the soap is fully dissolved and suds form.

• Submerge one piece of jewellery in the solution and let it soak for 5-10 minutes to loosen any dirt or grime.

• Use a cotton swab or a soft-bristled baby toothbrush to carefully remove any embedded dirt or debris from the jewellery's crevices.

• Thoroughly dry your jewellery with a soft, lint-free cloth, buffing the surface to restore its shine and lustre.

WILL YOUR JEWELLERY TURN MY SKIN GREEN?

Let's get a few things straight here - Green skin under jewellery isn't due to poor quality or harmful materials. It's simply a reaction to certain metals, like copper, which can oxidize and stain skin when it reacts to skin pH levels. People with acidic skin or those who use certain hand creams or perfumes are more prone to this. Even high-end jewellery can cause this reaction, as pure gold and silver are often alloyed with copper to create durable pieces. In fact, 925 sterling silver jewellery, used by both luxury and affordable brands, contains 7.5% copper. So, a little copper doesn't mean poor quality!

WHAT CAN I DO TO PREVENT MY SKIN TURNING GREEN?

If you are one of the few people who experience staining when you wear jewellery, follow the simples steps above to prevent such occurrences while also increasing the longevity of your TESOURO piece's.

WHAT DO I DO TO TREAT A GREEN FINGER?

Have you fallen victim to unsightly green staining? Don't worry, it's easily removable! Start by gently scrubbing the affected area with soap and warm water, using a nailbrush to add some extra scrubbing power.

If the stain persists, try using a makeup remover or rubbing alcohol to help lift it away. Simply wipe the area with a cotton pad, then rinse with warm water and soap to remove any remaining residue.

MATERIALS

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN 'REGULAR' GOLD PLATING, 'PVD' GOLD PLATING, GOLD FILLED AND GOLD VERMEIL JEWELLERY?

Gold plating is a thin layer of real gold applied to another metal, offering a luxurious look at a lower cost. However, it can scratch easily, revealing the base material. Our PVD coating, on the other hand, provides a durable and long-lasting finish.

PVD process bonds 18k gold to stainless steel or sterling silver, creating a brilliant and functional finish. This coating is extremely durable, resistant to corrosion, and sweat.

Gold Vermeil features a sterling silver base with a thick gold plating (at least 2.5 microns). Gold Filled jewellery has almost 100x more gold than regular gold plating, making it more durable and resistant to tarnish.

Our jewellery is plated using 18k Gold PVD, Gold Filled, or Gold Vermeil, making it water-resistant. With proper care, our jewellery can withstand moisture exposure. Our stainless steel pieces are also hypoallergenic, free from Nickel, Chromium, and Lead, making them safe for sensitive skin.

REMEMBER, all metal jewellery requires maintenance to prevent oxidation and fading. Follow our care advice to keep your jewellery looking its best.
